Necessary skills for Reception

Independent: Hotels and resort expect from you that you will do activities out of your own. Always take initiative.

Attentive: In the reception it is not possible to permit faults.  Try to stay focussed and write everything down what you have down, who called you and when a guest asks you a difficult question. Try to do as much as possible on your own but when you have a problem ask.

Teamwork: Treat your colleagues with respect. When something is wrong, talk about it with somebody. This can be a personal thing but also something what happened during your work. A good working environment is what everybody wants.

Representative: As receptionist you are the face of the hotel or resort. You must stand at the reception with a friendly smile and you must always be nice to the guests. For this always try to look well cared.

Language knowledge: It is important that you can communicate well with the guests and your colleagues. That is why it is important that you have a good knowledge of several languages. They do not expect a perfectly spoken language but a good basic knowledge of the languages would be great.

Stress resistant: Try to not panic when something is not going well or when a lot of people ask you on the same time a lot of questions. The guest does not want to wait a long time, so try to be concentrated so you can help the guest good and fast.

Show initiative: Try to learn not just one thing during your internship period but also other things. When you want to learn something more, or to do something in a different way, speak with your manager about it.
