Barcelona-Lingua is a small school located in the heart of Barcelona, only a five minute walk from the Plaza de Cataluña - the main square, and the Barrio Gótico - the famous gothic quarter.
The school offers Spanish classes given by young enthusiastic teachers in an enjoyable and personal atmosphere. We have been dedicated to teaching Spanish exclusively for over fifteen years and take pleasure in sharing our knowledge of Spanish culture, gastronomy and customs aswell as our language (we also give an insight to Latin American Cultures, an integral part of the Spanish language).
Our goal is for you to discover that learning Spanish is not only about our language but also our way of life.
This page aims not only to arouse your interest but to give you more information about the courses we offer. Should you require any further information please do not hesitate to contact us. It will be our pleasure to inform you.
This year we also offer Spanish courses directly on the beach in Canet de Mar, where conditions are ideal both for a holiday and for learning Spanish.
¡Hasta pronto ! - See you soon

Barcelona is located in the Northeast of Spain and is the capital of Cataluña. With a population of 1.5 million ( 3 million including the Greater Barcelona area) it is one of Spain's most important cities.
Four kilometres of beaches to the east and a National Park to the west make its location ideal, and Barcelona really has something to offer for everyone.
The 1992 summer Olympic Games left their mark on the city´s landscape and it has become one of the world´s true cultural capitals.
The urban landscape combines some of the clearest examples of modern-day architecture with the historical monuments to be found in the city´s oldest quarters. Internationally renowned for modernist buildings constructed for the ‘Universal Exhibition’ celebrated at the beginning of the last century, and whose architects include Puig i Cadafalch, Domenech i Moi, and the brilliant Antoni Gaudí, parks and buildings reflect avant garde tendencies rather than more traditional designs.
Wide boulevards are truly emblematic in Barcelona and are full of life at all hours of the day and night. Taking a stroll down ‘Las Ramblas’, the famous avenue leading down to the sea, you will find a curious mixture of stately buildings, shops and cafes, and mime artists and street entertainers who invite you to dwell just a little longer than you may have planned. You will also come across fascinating local markets such as the vibrant ‘Boqueria’, to feast your eyes on; yet another of the cities delights.
Such a colourful mixture and a constant movement of people from all across the globe makes Barcelona one of the most beautiful and cosmopolitan cities on the Mediterranean and in fact, in the whole world |

Classes run from Monday to Friday and the number of classes per day depends on the type of course you choose. This normally ranges between 4 and 6 a day with each class lasting 45 minutes.
Our teachers are all native Spanish speakers, hold a University Degree and have extensive experience in teaching Spanish language and culture to foreign students.
The courses can be booked either for 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 weeks or - if you want to really immerse yourself in the Spanish language and culture - for a longer period of time. During your stay we will help you to discover not only the Spanish language but also the culture of our regions.
All levels are offered from Beginners to Advanced. Our Spanish courses are designed either for very small groups or private tuition. The classes are always focussed on conversation and practical communication. Grammar is taught in a communicative context and adapted to the specific needs of each student. Our lessons are personalised, offering a balance between grammar, writing, comprehension and oral expression.
Each group has a minimum of three and a maximum of eight students, so everyone can participate actively, while at the same time receiving individual attention. Students are welcome to make suggestions and contribute to the course structure. If there are less than three students to a class, duration is reduced by one third.
No classes are held on National Bank Holidays, and in the event of a local Bank Holiday classes or complementary activities are offered.
At the end of the course you will be given a certificate of |

Preparation of the D.E.L.E. |
The Diploma de Espanol como Lengua Extranjera (D.E.L.E) is the only official examination of Spanish for foreign students. There are three levels: Initial, Basic and Superior, and the examinations can be taken at Instituto Cervantes centres worldwide, or in Spain in May and November.
Courses begin 3 months before the exam and duration is between 4 to 12 weeks, finishing a few days before the actual examination. Exam registration is not included in the price of the course.
- 4 daily classes from Monday to Friday
- Duration:from 4 weeks to 12 weeks
- Levels: level C and higher |
 |
Students are required to take a placement test on the first day of the course to ensure correct grouping. You will be placed in one of the following groups. In some cases it may be necessary to sub-divide levels i.e. A/B, B/C, C/D or D/E and it is usually possible to adjust levels during the course.
Level A: Beginners
For students with no previous knowledge of Spanish, this level provides an introduction to the basic structures of the language. Classes are given entirely in Spanish with listening, comprehension and oral expression being fundamental. The aim is to reach a level where you can communicate in everyday situations using basic vocabulary.
Level B: Elementary
For those with a basic knowledge of Spanish who wish to improve their oral and written communication skills. The course begins with a brief review and consolidation of the basic structures of the language. At this level past, present and future verb tenses are covered. Emphasis is placed on the practice of language in everyday situations such as shopping, eating out and asking for directions. Authentic material such as easy newspaper articles, comics, songs and simple literature is used. Conversational practice will increase your confidence to take part in simple discussions.
Level C & D: Intermediate and Upper Intermediate
The learning of a language is closely associated with the culture, history, society and politics of the country concerned. For this reason we examine more complex texts, themes and teaching material in order to create an authentic picture of modern Spain (and to some extent Latin America). Humour, songs, lifestyles, culture, history, literature, film, sayings and idiomatic expressions aswell as students own suggestions form part of the program.
The development of conversational skills is of particular importance. You will learn to speak more confidently in a variety of situations. Level "C" is designed for students who can already hold a simple conversation. At this level we finish the study of basic grammar (structures already covered including future and past tenses) and we begin studying more difficult aspects such as the subjunctive tenses. At level "D" we revise and perfect use of previously studied tenses, study the subjunctive in more depth and work on conditional clauses.
Level E: Advanced
The advanced level is aimed at students who are already fluent in Spanish and want to perfect their knowledge of the language. We extend your lexis through debate, study of the language’s subtleties and common expressions, and a deepening of grammatical understanding to correct defects which may still exist. Themes are diverse; Literature, Current Affairs or any suggestion you wish to make and that may be of interest to you. The objective of this course is to really perfect your spoken and written Spanish |
 |
In addition to our own teaching materials, AULA is used for students at Beginner, Elementary and Intermediate levels. These texts are available for purchase or hire from the school office.
For Upper Intermediate and Advanced students literature, newspaper articles, magazines, texts and grammar exercises devised by the school are used. A specific text for higher levels is not necessary but we supplement with the University of Salamanca’s, Temas de gramática española, Sintaxis del español, Nivel de perfeccionamiento and Curso superior de español by Concha Moreno. |

Accommodation with the school is of course optional, and a course can be booked independently. Alternatively those who wish to accompany students without taking a language course may book a room separately. You may occupy your accommodation from the arrival day (Sunday) until noon on the last Saturday of your course. Flat and family places are limited and we recommend you to register well in advance.
1. Comfortable and spacious flats shared with four or five students. Each flat has one or two double and one or two single bedrooms. Your bedroom can either be single or double, if sharing with a friend. The flats are clean and cosy and all have a shared fully-equipped kitchen (with washing machine) and sitting room (with television) and bathrooms. Bedrooms are supplied with bed linen and it is only necessary to bring towels. Gas, water and electricity expenses are included in the price.
This method of accommodation ensures both independence and personal contact.
2. We can also offer accommodation with carefully selected Spanish families. The stay includes half board ( breakfast and either lunch or dinner).
3. We will assist with hotel or hostel reservations if you opt for this type of stay.

 |
Learning Spanish should not be limited to the classroom and we therefore offer a series of cultural and leisure activities during your stay. On the first day a stroll in downtown Barcelona will familiarize you with some places of interest., and on other days the possibility of visits to the Sagrada Familia, the Parque Güell, Las Ramblas, the Palacio de Música, Montjuic etc.
Beaches are a fifteen-minute walk from the school to enjoy outdoor activities such as windsurfing and sailing (possible at the sailing school). The school itself will lend soccer and volley balls, beach and tennis raquets.
A minimum number of students is required to organise excursions to the Museo Dali in Figueres/Cadaqués, to the beaches at Sitges, the Monasterio Montserrat or various hikes in the surrounding countryside.
Cultural activities are of high priority and every week one of the best Spanish and Latin American films are shown at school. Chats or debates are also organised to discuss different aspects of culture, history and gastronomy, and dinner parties, tapas evenings and wine tastings provide an opportunity to put theory to practice and create an enjoyable and cheerful atmosphere.
Barcelona’s own ample cultural supply enable us to program various events: concerts, cinema festivals, exhibitions or conferences which take place throughout the calendar year, and of which we inform students on a regular basis.
To use Internet during the opening hours of our language school is possible and free of charge. |
